It's TVs Fault Why I Am This Way

In middle school my dad made me tapes from his old records, one of them being Led Zeppelin IV on side A and a hodgepodge of Ramones songs on side B. Zeppelin took a little longer to grow on me, but both of these bands were kind of the reason I started listening to everything else I listen to, after the Beatles. My dad's "life lessons on cassette tapes" kind of rocked my world, no pun intended. Anyway, the Ramones have been one of my favorite bands ever since so of course I have my fair share of shirts. Here are some inspiring Ramones-related looks:

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Yes, that is Kendra Wilkinson. And, yes, I think her shirt is kind of awesome here.

I totally forget where this one came from. :/
I love it, though!

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

So, at school I wanted to do this extra-credit volunteer project where you get to tutor local elementary school kids, but it filled up :(
It's only the 4th day of school! I couldn't believe it.

While I was thinking about whether or not I wanted to drop the $$ on the Jeffrey Campbell Ann Demeulemeester look-a-likes at Free People, the black ones sold out in almost every size.
They still have other colors, but I don't love that the heel color doesn't match the uppers like the real Ann Ds.

Now THIS was ridiculous. I saw these online, so the next day I went to three Payless stores, none of which had them in stock yet. Two days later I go to buy them online... SOLD OUT. seriously? I'll still check in store, but how annoying?

So after all this nonsense I learned my lesson about striking while the iron is still hot, so to speak. Here are the Jeffrey Campbell Ann D wannabe boots. The size 6 boots had sold out in black and grey, so last night I jumped on these before the size 7s sold out, too. Got them in grey. They shipped this morning, so I'll post them when they arrive!

I'm glad I didn't let these get away - no buyer's remorse! :) Hopefully they'll be just as good in person.

I Don't Believe In Kings

Some people said they liked my outfit today (including a mildly creepy guy... hate that!), so here it is.
(I just moved in, so sorry about the paint splatters on the mirror! Once I get used to the new apartment, I'll find a better way to take pictures.)

My favorite part is that it's cheap!
tank top - American Apparel
belt - gift from my bestie Andrea
bracelet - Forever 21
skirt - "vintage" Rampage from my mom
(mid-90s? I don't remember her wearing it...)
sandals - Urban Outfitters

This is a ring I was wearing today. It is one of my favorites... I got it out of one of those 50-cent machines from a pizza joint or something, years ago

In A Neutrals Mood

I've been really busy lately with the first week of classes, so for now I'll just leave you with this outfit I liked from Stockholm Street Style a few days ago. I liked her hooded scarf/shawl thing she had going on over here.

When Things Start Splitting At The Seams

I just got the smallest September Vogue in the mail that I have ever received in my subscribing life. I guess the recession hits everyone, huh?

On the plus side, there was this rad Little Red Riding Hood editorial with Natalia Vodianova.

Also, the sixth page of the spread in this set of scans is a lot of Stella, and features great thigh-high boots she did that remind me of these, also from the FW 09 collection:

Ready Boots? Start Walkin'!

Breaking news! This just in:

I found these on eBay. They're Charles David, but better yet, they are only $35. Granted, they aren't perfect, but they do have a thicker stacked heel, which I like. The silhouette of the toe looks good and I was looking for a good buckle or zipper detail. I might buy them and DIY-tweak them a little bit (maybe chains or a new buckle or a peep toe or something) to make them look a little fresher. It's probably best if I only pay around $40, though, because I get shoe ADHD and chances are I won't end up wearing a pair of $200 ankle boots enough times to make the purchase very worthwhile.

Oh, Mother Of Pearl I Wouldn't Trade You For Another Girl

I've been looking for a good, black, badass looking pair of ankle boots, but it's hard.

This is my dream pair still, but unavailable in the U.S.

This is a contender from Aldo, but I was really looking for something with a heftier heel.

This pair is from Urban Outfitters... I tried them on, but from the front my feet looked like tiny little baby hooves or something (I'm only a size 6.5, I think I tried on a 6... sometimes a rounded toe makes me look like I have kiddie feet) Urban Outfitters has been personally failing me lately.

And I found these from Moschino, but they're so out of my price range... just eye-candy :) They remind me a little of the new Acne wedges. Sexy monster of Frankenstein shoes?

Anyway, the search continues, but I will keep y'all posted!

Sand Castles In The Sand

I've never listened to these folks, so I'm not familiar with them at all, but I came across some pictures from Lollapalooza. Here is Alice Glass of Crystal Castles... an interesting girl, no doubt. (Sure does love to rock the raccoon eye look)

My Bloody Valentine

Remember Emily Valentine form Beverly Hills: 90210? She looked like such a badass, but really she had depression and a drug/rave problem or something and ended up in a psych ward? Well, I don't really have a point with all of this, except for the fact that she had some cool clothes. Tried to emulate the striped shirt/jeans/leather jacket thing, but I don't think it works unless you have that hair - and I am DEFINITELY not that ballsy. :)

Same As It Ever Was

my shorts, the movie!

I know this is kind of super-boring, but I was doing super-boring things today (except for the part where I went HERE), so it's fitting. But college sweatshirt + cutoffs + keds = default California "style." It's impossible to be motivated to wear anything else when it's so freaking hot out all the time. Also, I only wear my sunglasses inside when I am preparing to take awkwardly staged photos with no makeup for you guys! :) I hate having my picture taken, and I always end up looking like Debbie Downer. Oh, well. I'm happy, I swear!

Into The Blue Again, After The Money's Gone

Isn't this the silliest ad you have ever seen? Even by American Apparel standards... Who does yoga like this (vulgar come hither yoga?), on a couch no less? C'mon people...

In other semi-related news, my friends had a stand this month at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena, selling jewelry and thrifted clothing finds. Apparently, one of my friends (you can find her here, she really needs to update though) sold a bunch of shoes to Dov Charney. So either he wears a women's size 8, he wants his employees to wear better shoes, or he does some of the shopping for California Select himself?

Apocalypse Now

I've been trying to hold off on buying more makeup, but I think I need one more purchase.
