I'm Not The Lady Killing Sort

So, honestly - I haven't been keeping up with high fashion much lately. I've been much more into finding my inspiration from music and other people. As such, I've had a stack of Vogues, Elles, Marie Claires, and Nylons piling up at home unread - I just don't care for them anymore. Anyway, I finally looked through a couple of them and found this FW 2010 Chanel ad that I really liked - that first shot. (Probably the only thing in the whole issue I liked, and it wasn't even an editorial.)

You're The Dirty Hack That Shot Your Woman Down

In middle school I had this friend with an older sister who I thought was oh-so-awesome. She had the best clothes, great makeup, impeccable musical taste, modeled, really edgy, etc, etc.

She also read Nylon, so I decided that I had to as well. I remember seeing this issue in their house in particular that especially piqued my interest:

It seems that as I have been subscribed over the last 5/6 years, though, I have been witnessing the steady decline of the magazine. Granted, occasionally they'll have a few interesting features, or will pick a decent cover subject. I think they still do pretty good music reviews.

However, who can forget the dreaded Paris Hilton issue?
Even the most recent one... not great. Hillary Duff? Really?

I think the SJP issue of Elle the other month had edgier styling. This issue read a little "Teen Vogue" for me.

Moral of the story? I need a new, actually inspiring subscription.
I wish Jalouse was cheaper in the states.

On Her Lawn Spun And Alone

As soon as I saw this Tim Burton photoshoot by Tim Walker online I had to run out and buy the October issue of Harper's Bazaar to see it in person. It is so macabre and dark and crazy and I absolutely love everything about it! Really amazing stuff.

(photo overload ahead)

When Things Start Splitting At The Seams

I just got the smallest September Vogue in the mail that I have ever received in my subscribing life. I guess the recession hits everyone, huh?

On the plus side, there was this rad Little Red Riding Hood editorial with Natalia Vodianova.

Also, the sixth page of the spread in this set of scans is a lot of Stella, and features great thigh-high boots she did that remind me of these, also from the FW 09 collection:
