Todd Lynn spring 2010 via Studded Hearts

THIS PICTURE MAKES ME WANT TO BLOG LIKE KANYE WEST but I will spare you the caps-lock yelling. I don't need to yell about this, actually. YES, Todd Lynn put metal armor horn things on the shoulders of his jackets. This doesn't help me Todd Lynn. This only makes your coat more expensive. Do I really want to walk around Los Angeles with large metal impaling implements flanking my head? No, no I don't. If Free People (or any brand, but that was the first that came to mind) rips you off and starts putting cheap metal pieces on the shoulders of THEIR blazers for slightly less money, will I want to wear those? Probably not.

I fully understand that fashion = art. Fashion doesn't HAVE to be wearable. That's definitely a plus, but if you are super fierce Kate Lanphear status, then you can get away with metal shoulder antics.

As you are probably wondering, do I have a point here?
(yes, it is located next to my fancy yellow arrow)

I WOULD TOTALLY WEAR THAT BLAZER WALKING AWAY FROM ME. THE BACK OF IT LOOKS AWESOME. I WOULD PAY $$$ FOR THAT BECAUSE I COULD KEEP IT AND WEAR IT FOREVER AND NOT REGRET BUYING A JACKET FROM THE LANCELOT/BARBARIAN COLLECTION OF CRAZY.

Here's the front:
(nothing too special, but that's why you could keep/wear this blazer for-ev-er. It's like a mullet - business up front, party in the back.)

Loving the Payless boots! :)
Finished my shredded up Raquel Allegra DIY shirt, I think... to the dismay of my roommate. She looked like she thought I should be institutionalized when she saw me working on it

Black Cards, Black Cars, All Black Everything

So a while back I discovered Jinx Dawson of the band Coven, aka "The Goth Queen." Although her music isn't really my style, I'm really drawn to her style. I'm pretty sure I have every picture of her ever taken saved to my computer right now, so consider this the first of several installments of style-inspiration shots of Jinx Dawson.

This is the first picture of her I ever saw. It's a cropped bit of one of Coven's album covers, I believe. I'm sure you can see why it caught my attention! It's stunning, but at the same time, I always thought she looks like (a very stylish) floating corpse here. Love her hair, love the necklace.

On Her Lawn Spun And Alone

As soon as I saw this Tim Burton photoshoot by Tim Walker online I had to run out and buy the October issue of Harper's Bazaar to see it in person. It is so macabre and dark and crazy and I absolutely love everything about it! Really amazing stuff.

I'm Not The Lady-Killing Sort/Enough To Hurt

Stumbled across this acoustic gem today while taking an essay-writing break. (I'm writing about pop culture's portrayal of climate change which, unfortunately, involved me watching The Day After Tomorrow... definitely DO NOT recommend that one to you guys! It was awful.)

Quick break from studying chemical kinetics to share this little oasis. Unfortunately, my current surroundings looks nothing like this - yet another reason why midterms stink.

This is Phi being 100% unadulteratedly rawrsome.
{& 100% more awesome than the only title I could come up with at 2 in the morning}

Black, white, nudes, laced-up trousers, BOOTS, sheerness, delicate embellishments, and, most important, the perfect balance of androgynous & sexy without being over the top... Difficult to achieve, but I think it was pulled off very nicely here. These pieces all mix well and could integrate into pretty much any wardrobe. Very versatile. Plus, you can apparently style this stuff so that you look like you just joined a fashion army or something.

"These are my new 'I don't need a job, I don't need my parents, I've got great boots' boots."

OK, so I do need my job and parents, but I'm super happy with my boots! I got the Madison Biker boots by Alice + Olivia x Payless and I am positively thrilled with them. They totally fit true to size, and they are so different from anything else I own. 100% no buyer's remorse on this one. I'm going to wear them to death this fall/winter (dealing with ANOTHER heat wave in LA right now...) and they are actually really comfortable! I was impressed. Wedges are usually good like that, but it is an inexpensive pair of shoes, so I had so hesitations.

It's weird, because just looking at these boots or describing them, these boots shouldn't be aesthetically pleasing at all. The snubbed toe bit doesn't seem like it should make for much of a flattering silhouette. For some reason it kind of works, though. I guess these boots are a little bit like pigs. They're weird looking, but we love them anyway.

Anyway, here are some awkwardly staged outfit pics for you guys. I still need to figure out the best way to arrange the self-timer thing in my new apartment... I think I've come to the conclusion that I need a tripod.

Some are blurry, all are bad - use your imagination a little! :)

Don't You Realize I Wouldn't Pause/That I Would Cut Him Down With My Claws

So, all this talk about the Magical Wizarding World has reminded me that I wanted to post on the fabulosity of Dame Maggie Smith in the last movie. (I'm a Harry Potter freak by the way, in case you couldn't tell already...)

So, her coat throughout the movie is very awesome. It has a sort of quilting thing going on, not to mention those INSANE Balmain-esque shoulders and a pretty rad pointed collar that you can see in the second picture. This is the definition of fierce, I think.

So, these are the sneak peeks at the Rodarget line that I missed a couple weeks back. I have high hopes. Anna Sui/Gossip Girl was pretty disappointing.

I just got through reading Ms. Slick's memoir (Somebody to Love) a few months ago. What a character, she's absolutely hilarious! She kept talking about how she always felt inferior to blonde chicks in the 60s, but clearly she's gorgeous. I kind of want my hair to look like this now...
