I really wanted to challenge myself this season and take a step back from what I’m known for. I had to come up with something that was the polar opposite of last season while still staying true to my aesthetic. My spring collection was so demonic, witchy, and ancient-feeling—this time I wanted to go futuristic, and add color with coated metal jewelry and crystals. I recently had cable TV installed and have been watching a lot of Star Trek, so I think that might have something to do with it. I’m the kind of designer who is always coming up with new ideas at the last second. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, and am on the phone to my production manager by 7 a.m.—I know half the time she wanted to kill me!
