I'd Rather Be Lonely, I'd Rather Be Free

I really wanted to challenge myself this season and take a step back from what I’m known for. I had to come up with something that was the polar opposite of last season while still staying true to my aesthetic. My spring collection was so demonic, witchy, and ancient-feeling—this time I wanted to go futuristic, and add color with coated metal jewelry and crystals. I recently had cable TV installed and have been watching a lot of Star Trek, so I think that might have something to do with it. I’m the kind of designer who is always coming up with new ideas at the last second. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, and am on the phone to my production manager by 7 a.m.—I know half the time she wanted to kill me! There’s a porcupine bracelet in my new collection that we added the day of, for example.

When Things Start Splitting At The Seams

I just got the smallest September Vogue in the mail that I have ever received in my subscribing life. I guess the recession hits everyone, huh?

On the plus side, there was this rad Little Red Riding Hood editorial with Natalia Vodianova.





Also, the sixth page of the spread in this set of scans is a lot of Stella, and features great thigh-high boots she did that remind me of these, also from the FW 09 collection:
